Consider moving food items to drawers. More items can be stored in a drawer; label tops for quick identification. Install roll-out pantry drawers for easier access. Because you can see more, you can store more. Reclaim a closet. Reclaim storage between studs of wall. Take out the kitchen soffits to move infrequently used items above kitchen cabinets; make new pantry cabinet space below. Delegate pantry food storage outside of the kitchen: under the living room couch or out in the garage. Tuck pantry food items inside decorative furnishings, like a crock. Think on a smaller scale: consider a mini-version of a walk-in pantry. Take 12" out of hallway width for pantry shelves. Recycle wooden crates from wine, mount to walls as a shelf (can get free from wine stores or superstores).
First of all: If you have a pantry, you are so blessed. Pantry organization will be easy for you. If you dont have an "official" pantry; not to worry, dedicate a nearby closet for kitchen supplies, pantry staples and storage. You will probably need to buy some sort of shelving for this "personally-designed" pantry. Of course, as with all de-cluttering and organization; you will need to remove all the items in your pantry first. Sorry, but pantry organization follows all the same organizational rules, but take it in small, do-able steps and you will be organized in no time. 1. Throw away the old and/or relocate those items that found their way into your pantry that dont belong there.
Consider the humidity and temperature of your pantry; you dont want to store dry food items in a damp place and a pantry that has a relatively cool, constant temperature is ideal. * If space is limited, buy plastic storage containers that you can stack in a coat closet, on top of closet shelves, and/or even under your bed. In these containers, I would keep items that you access less often in these storage areas. If you buy in bulk to save money and keep the excess inventory in these less easily accessed areas, you can always restock a smaller supply in your most convenient pantry storage area. * Keeping a "good inventory" of the items you use regularly will allow you to be able to avoid tempting sale prices on items you dont use and/or you dont need.
9. For all grocery and pantry items, clip coupons from your Sunday paper inserts, grocery store fliers and use them to save money when stocking your pantry. Stock up on those items that are on sale and that you use regularly. Items to keep in your pantry: 1. Spices: Spices are really expensive, so acquire as you go and need them. Of course, salt and pepper are a must; and then buy others as your recipe calls for them. You can save money if you buy in bulk, especially those spices you use often; but the initial outlay can be a bit pricey. Keep spices near your cooking range for easy access -- a "lazy susan" turntable can work well with spices. 2. Keep items in your pantry that can be used to prepare a quick meal with short notice.
