Nothing is more overwhelming and daunting and an un-organized, cluttered pantry. Pantries can easily become a catch all for all unsightly clutter within a household, but with a few pantry organizers, a couple of organizational methods and a little elbow grease, your pantry look fit for a magazine shoot. First, de-clutter your pantry. Go through and take out all items that do not belong in the pantry, throw away all expired items and consider getting rid of items that you rarely or never use. After your pantry has been de-cluttered, take everything off of the shelves and out of the pantry, essentially wiping your pantry-slate clean. With your remaining items, divide them into sensible categories such as spices, kitchen utensils, canned goods, small appliances, etc. Make sure the categories work for you and your family - each pantry is different.
The style of your kitchen pantry can be as varied as your design. Most pantries are a small room carved out of the kitchen space and have standard walls and a small standard door for access. Dont have enough room for a pantry? If possible, when you are designing your kitchen, borrow the space from an adjoining mudroom or laundry room, to enlarge your kitchen space. You will be spending more time in your kitchen than you will in other small utilitarian rooms. You can also build a food pantry to match the rest of your cabinets. Many cabinet makers offer floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinets of varying sizes which allow you to add the option of a kitchen pantry within a small kitchen space. While you gain a significant amount of storage space with a pantry cabinet, you do lose some counter space, but the trade-off may be worth it to you. A cabinet pantry will look very upscale in any design and should be considered as an option when you design your new kitchen.
A pantry that you can depend on is convenient to use and can store up back-up packages for every item you purchased for home use. A simple rule to follow is a systematic storing of additional packs for every product from toothbrushes to tortellini. You can start to have one by having at least three-day food supply for the family and adding a reserve for another person. For bigger or mid-sized pantries, stored food supplies can last for two weeks to a month for a family to survive, especially in emergency cases. The pantry can store packages of fresh foods, powdered milk, fruits and vegetables and other products for everyday use. Having a good monitoring of supplies to be bought draws you from taking a long list of things to buy as what is usually done in traditional home organization. A good storage process in a pantry uses everything purchased and not simply buying a product and after a few months you would wonder why a certain product was bought.
Also, if you install pantry drawers they will probably only be around chest height at most, so make sure the space above is devoted to shelving too. Folding plastic crates can stand on the floor and a very common use for these is to keep loose vegetables in that do not need refrigerating, such as potatoes, onions and carrots, since the holes in the sides ensure air circulation which prevents your food from spoiling. Totes are small baskets which are usually placed on shelves and used to store small items that may not fit in drawers - think, for example, your collection of spices, which you want to pull out all at the same time to browse through. Not necessarily food either, think about putting food mixer parts in a pantry tote - these otherwise often kick around loose on your pantry shelves and create clutter.
