The best option in selecting what needs to be stored in your pantry is to make a working grocery list. What you used, eat and buy often should have a space in your list and should never be forgotten. Managing a pantry principle does not only depend on your daily use but also other items that may be of importance to your daily food preparation. More than the cold cuts and canned goods that you store every time you go to a grocery, other vegetables on sale may be kept for future use. How your pantry is designed depends on the basic needs of your family. Whatever is there, it should meet your daily needs and preferences. Fixing pantry requirements Starting an organized pantry need not to have a rigid structure. By simply knowing what you need: the food items shelf-life and how they should be stored is enough. What you need to learn is to organize them and have proper inventory techniques.You can begin by buying at least twice the amount of the food purchases to items that you frequently use. For extras, try to maximize their use. When everything is consumed, dont forget it in your shopping list.
2. Wipe out the shelves; line them with contact paper, if you like, for easy clean-up. 3. Store like items together; try not to over-stuff. 4. Store all your heavy items on the bottom shelf or floor of the pantry -- wouldnt want to ruin your nice shelves with too much weight. 5. Use air-tight storage containers liberally for pantry staples. 6. Put snacks or kid-friendly items low enough for the kids to reach them when needed, and so they can help unpack the groceries or help in the kitchen getting supplies. 7. When unloading groceries, try not to shove items in your pantry in an effort to make it fit. You will quickly have pantry de-organization! 8. Everything should have a place -- I realize sometimes thats easier said than done. You can designate an area for junk and items that just dont fit right anywhere else. I usually put a basket on the floor of my pantry to "catch" items like this -- I put a bag of onions, a sack of potatoes and rice waiting to be opened in there too. It gives grace to pantry organization.

If possible, items such as paper towels, paper plates, napkins, etc. that will not expire or become stale, purchase in larger quantities. Having an extra jar of mayo or some reserve cans of chicken and/or tuna salad can come in very handy with a surprise visit from a friend.
